A PENSIONER is hoping he can inspire divine intervention in the case of Madeleine McCann — via an appeal in the Clydebank Post.
Robert Darroch, 75, has made several appeals in the Post’s letters page over the past 20-years asking readers to pray for people missing or being held captive.
And miraculously, or coincidentally, soon after publication there have been some very positive outcomes.
Remembering these past successes, Robert is now asking Bankies to spare a thought and a prayer for Madeleine in the hope the pattern continues.
Robert told the Post: “Over a period of four years in the late eighties and early nineties I regularly asked the people of Clydebank to spare a thought and a prayer for Terry Waite, held captive in Lebanon, and other captives in letters to the Post.
“Almost every time my letter was published the captives were freed.
“For example on February 21, 1991, I predicted, regarding hostages, that ‘the bumper harvest will come this year’ at a prayer meeting in St Stephen’s Church in Dalmuir.
“On August 8 I repeated the prediction in the Clydebank Post.
“Between August and December eight captives, including Terry Waite, were freed during harvest months.”
Robert believes strongly in the power of prayer and travels around churches in Britain praying and encouraging others to pray for good causes and for peace.
The Parkhall man said: “I go to different churches every Sunday. I’m a Catholic myself but I’ve been to two thousand two hundred churches covering fifty denominations in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. My record is attending seven services on the same day in Clydebank. I am trying to break down sectarian barriers.”
Robert has been travelling around churches sending out appeals for 27 years.
He has had similar success sending out appeals in newspapers in other parts of Britain.
He said: “In the early nineties I went to six services in Enniskillen in Northern Ireland and silently prayed for peace. The local newspaper interviewed me and I said I predict there will be movement towards peace before a year. That year the IRA called a ceasefire.
“There’s no halo above my head but there are times when I suspect that somebody up there either likes me or is getting me mixed up with somebody else.”
Readers will be very aware Robert’s hopes and prayers for Madeleine McCann have not been successful to date, and that is why he appealing in the Post. He said: “I want to see if the same thing happens as before. Since last September in as many as two or three churches every Sunday in different towns in Scotland I silently prayed that I be granted the finance to issue a world peace appeal and that Madeleine would be found but I have had no response.
“May I kindly ask the people of Clydebank to spare a thought and a prayer that Madeleine will be found.”
Have You seen anything suspicious related to the disappearance of Madeleine or if you believe you know where Madeleine is being concealed or hidden. Portuguese police have searched extensively around Praia da Luz and she has not been found.
It is possible that she is being hidden or concealed in some way and if you know where then by now you may have realised that it is in everyone’s interest that she is returned to her family.

Our daughter Madeleine was abducted on 3rd May 2007 in Praia da Luz, Portugal, 9 days before her 4th birthday. She was taken from our holiday apartment where she was sleeping with her younger brother and sister whilst we were dining 50 yards away. Despite a massive investigation led by the Portuguese police and supported by the British police, we still do not know who has taken her, why she was taken or where she is. In addition, private investigators based in Spain are now following up any leads regarding Madeleine’s disappearance. Do you have any photos or videos? The documentary reconstructed that critical night using eye witness testimony and where possible, the actual people involved such as Jane, who believes she actually saw Madeleine being carried away, but at the time, didn’t immediately assume she was witnessing an abduction; a fact that she finds hard to deal with now because she of course realises that her intervention at that moment could’ve meant that Madeleine was at this minute safe at home with her family. That must be a terrible burden for her to bear and it was heart rending to see her weep as she watched the actor playing Madeleine’s abductor carrying a child…

ON NEW YEAR’S DAY 2008, at 10pm, Amy Fitzpatrick said goodbye to her close friend Ashley Rose, with whom she had been babysitting Ashley’s brother at her friend’s house in Mijas Costa. Amy should have arrived at her home on the urbanisation Riviera del Sol in Mijas Costa, near Fuengirola, at about 10:10pm, as it was only a short walk away. But, she never arrived home and has not been heard from or seen since that night.Amy, an Irish girl, was 15 at the time; she has black hair, blue eyes and a pale complexion. She is 1.65m tall. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing dark-coloured crushed velvet tracksuit bottoms and a black T-shirt with the word ‘Diesel’ on it in various different colours. She had no money, phone or passport (as she was still on her mother’s). She turned 16 on February 7, 2008.Following her disappearance, a massive search involving hundreds of people from many different departments was launched amidst a sea of speculation; that she may have left voluntarily, that she may have been abducted, that a white van might have been involved, that she may have sent an email to make contact, that she may have eloped with a man. All proved to be dead ends.

McCanns win MEPs' backing for abduction alert system
Gerry and Kate McCann have won the backing of MEPs for a Europe-wide child abduction alert system which they believe could have helped find their missing daughter Madeleine.
A majority of members of the European Parliament have now signed a declaration calling for the introduction of the so-called Amber Alert system, which would involve much greater co-operation between countries when a child is reported missing.
The McCanns began their campaign after discovering that border officials in Spain were not told about Madeleine's abduction from a Portuguese holiday resort until 12 hours after the alarm was raised, giving kidnappers ample time to flee abroad.
Under the Amber Alert system police forces in neighbouring countries would be alerted immediately to a child's disappearance and descriptions or pictures of the child could be quickly circulated to the media. A similar system in America is credited with returning 400 children to their parents in five years.
For a declaration lodged in the European Parliament to become a resolution, a simple majority of 393 MEPs must sign it, and today the tally reached 398, meaning it will now be sent to the EU children's commissioner with a recommendation that it is implemented.
Gerry and Kate McCann said in a statement: "This is wonderful news. We would like to thank each and every one of the MEPs who backed this declaration. By doing so they are helping to make Europe a safer place for children.
"Hopefully this will also mean that far fewer families have to suffer the pain that we are continuing to endure. We now urge the commission to act swiftly in taking forward a Europe-wide missing child alert structure."
Edward McMillan-Scott, the Tory MEP for Yorkshire and Humber who helped the McCanns lobby MEPs during two visits to Strasbourg, said: "I'm delighted a majority of MEPs have now backed this important initiative. Now it has real impetus and hopefully it will help save children who have been abducted, as a similar system has done in America."
A final decision on whether to implement the scheme, and the details of how it would work, are now in the hands of the EU children's commissioner, Jacques Barrot, but the McCanns are hopeful the scheme will be up and running within one to two years.
The couple, together with their twins Sean and Amelie, are currently enjoying their first family holiday since Madeleine's disappearance in Praia da Luz in May last year, a few days before her fourth birthday.

Code Madeleine launched to keep children Safe
A new initiative backed by Madeleine McCann's parents will be launched to help keep children safe on holiday. The six point plan - named Code Madeleine - outlines what parents should do if their child goes missing. The code - similar to the Code Adam scheme in the US which is named after abducted six-year-old Adam Walsh - was developed by the Federation of Tour Operators, the Association of British Travel Agents and the News of the World who will launch the plan in tomorrow's paper. The objective of Code Madeleine is to trigger a system of securing premises and systematically searching for a missing child in the critical hours immediately after they are reported missing.Madeleine's parents Gerry and Kate McCann are supporting the scheme."Kate and I fully endorse the Code Madeleine scheme," Mr McCann said."Kate and I hope that this new code will help protect British families when they are on holiday."The six points are:Hotel management or holiday company staff to immediately obtain a photograph and detailed description of the missing child, and to assist parents in liaising with the police.Designated employee to page Code Madeleine via nearest in-house telephone - implementing the procedure of circulating the photograph and communicating a detailed description of the missing child throughout the hotel.Hotel staff, supported by holiday company representatives on the premises, to assist in search of public areas and to monitor entrances and exits from the premises. If the missing child is not found within 10 minutes of initial search of public areas, parent to take decision to notify local police. Hotel management or holiday company staff to assist.Hotel management or holiday company staff to use best endeavours to ensure any suspected crime scene area is isolated and kept free of contamination until police arrive. If the child is found accompanied by someone other than a parent or legal guardian, reasonable efforts to delay their departure will be used without putting the child, staff, or visitors at risk. Police will be notified and given details about the person accompanying the child.Holiday firms will now be asked to sign up to the code and train staff on what to do if a child goes missing.Andy Cooper, director general of the Federation of Tour Operators, said: "All of our major members have agreed to support Code Madeleine and adopt the six-point plan to help make children safer while on holiday."Code Madeleine launchedThe six point plan - named Code Madeleine - outlines what parents should do if their child goes missing.Keep an eye on your children with GPSRoSPA: Let children learn by taking risksChildren 'missing out on crucial friendships'Related sitesBring Madeleine home'We will NEVER give up looking for Madeleine.' MADELEINE McCANN : A STILL UNSOLVED MYSTERY
This past May the 4th, there was a very sad, heart-wrenching anniversary, that is the one of the 2nd year of Madeleine McCann's disappearance. To this day, she is still missing, and we still do not have the slightest clue as to what happened to her and as to whether she is still alive or not. For many months, "thanks" to all the desinformation and the "leaks" (provided, we know that now, by the PJ, and most particularly, by Gonçalo Amaral), I was one of the most ferocious critics of the McCanns. For months, I was absolutely convinced that they knew what had happened to their daughter and/or had something to do with it. But when the files from the PJ were finally released, I experienced a complete turn-about. I now stand utterly convinced that the McCanns know NOTHING WHATSOEVER about what happened to their daughter and her whereabouts. In short, they have NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with their disappearance, except, of course, for the fact that indeed, they were incredibly naïve and grossly negligent. So, I decided to upload a series of videos made in 2007-2008 about this world-famous unsolved mystery. The viewers MUST keep in mind that these videos were made when very little facts were actually known about this baffling case, and when the only informations at hand were actually nothing more than unfounded, outrageous gossips, rumors, allegations and innuendos. One thing remains certain, though : the PJ, through their sheer inexperience and incompetence, irretrievably jeopardized this case from its very onset. In all fairness, the PJ were NOT prepared for a case of such magnitude. True, they lacked the manpower, expertise, technology, etc, to deal efficiently with such a puzzling disappearance. Granted, they were under tremendous pressure to solve this case. But nonetheless, they blew it big time by making every mistake in the book. As a retired criminologist, my take on this case is very simple. Any which way we look at it, Madeleine IS DEAD. What I mean is this : even IF she's still PHYSICALLY alive, one can only guess in what condition she is. I don't even want to imagine what became of her if adbucted by a pedophile ring, for instance. In the "very best" case scenario (illegal adoption agency, or someone childless having taken her in desperation), she would NOT be today the same Madeleine her parents once knew. Would she meet them on the street, she most probably wouldn't even recognize them. And IF she is still alive and found, "chances" are that the McCanns would face a complete stranger. So even alive, she would be, in effect, "dead" to her own parents, for the Madeleine they once knew would be gone forever...My heart goes out to Madeleine, this adorable little angel, and to her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann. :(
